HomeScamsAn Online Scam That Cost North Vancouver Man 35K

SCAMMED ONLINEThe average individual would think that $35,000 is a lot of money, especially those who live in third world countries and even students who have not entered the workforce yet.

This may also be the yearly salary of some graduates who land their first job. So to have someone or an organisation defraud this large sum of money would definitely leave the victim feeling devastated.

A Vancouver man is $35K out of pocket!

Recently, I came across an article about a North Vancouver man who lost $35,000 in an overseas online scam.

holding moneyThe 37 year old victim found this fraudulent business opportunity via social media which promised him that he could become a Canadian proprietor of a China-based petrochemical plant.

This man had received three separate cheques along with instructions to wire transfer the large sum of money to an account in Germany, over a six month period. Does this sound suspicious to you? Unfortunately for this guy, these cheques were actually fake. To wire a large sum of money to a foreign country already sounds dodgy.

An Online Scam That Cost North Vancouver Man 35K — 6 Comments

  1. There really are a lot of scams out there and you have to be so careful as you say to do your research. I hope your readers take heed of your advice and follow the necessary steps to check things out. It’s always better to get recommendations from lots of other people who can legitimately say they have found something that is honest and trustworthy.

  2. Wow that’s some title and headline to the article – very attention grabbing stuff!
This is really scary stuff – why would someone invest that much in an online opportunity they knew very little about?
I feel so, so sorry for this guy but I get the impression he had more money than sense. Does this thing happen often online?

    • Well…being scammed online does happen quite often I believe, but being scammed $35K is huge! I think it depends on what scam the person got themselves into. There are those people who get into some ‘so-called’ home business opportunity and gradually lose money by buying expensive products that don’t sell. Once the victim gets too deep into the business, it’s already too late. They’ve realised that they have invested thousands of dollars into some pyramid scam. Have a read of some scams that I have exposed recently on National Wealth Center and Too Damn Easy.

  3. That is why a lot of people are skeptical about affiliate marketing due to all these bad apples. There are way too many non-legit products in the market. It is, therefore, essential to do proper and thorough research before committing to anyone of them. Most of the people fall into the trap because of greed. There is no free lunch in this world and yet, people don’t get this concept!

How can we identify these scams out there?

Thanks for sharing this post with us. I hope this post reaches out to most people on the Internet!

  4. This is really a terrible story. I can’t imagine someone lost $35.000. This is awful. I completely agree with you that research is important. Research is vital. I think today if someone becomes a victim to an online scam that’s their fault because they didn’t do enough research. Everything today is open and available on the internet and you can check on any program. It will take a few minutes of research.
